A volume about auteur American cinema which has chapters on Kubrick, Arthur Penn, Robert Altman, Martin Scorsese, Oliver Stone, and Steven Spielberg (previous editions had Francis Ford Coppola instead). Contains some of the best and most lucid analyses of Kubrick’s main body of work and places him within a context — something critics forget sometimes. ( )
