Fourth in Barker's series of novels set in his marvelously detailed Tekumel world, originally described in his Empire of the Petal Throne Game. I feel Barker was a better world builder than he was a novelist, but the series is worth it for exploring the world. This story involves a party from his usually central Tsolyani empire venturing out to other nations, and encountering among other things a really nasty plague. Not my favorite of the books - Igot this basically to have it for the series. ( )
