This book, another of Saberhagen’s Berserker series, was pretty good. It stuck very well to the main plot and seldom wavered. In a nutshell, it’s about a starship captain who loses his family to a specific berserker they call Leviathan. When Leviathan launches an attack against a neighboring planet, he goes to their defense. Unfortunately the berserker finished off the colony, then heads to his home planet before he knows what’s going on, and the berserker kills everyone there, as well as his only surviving daughter. The rest of his life is dedicated to the destruction of Leviathan and avenging his daughter’s recent death as well as that of his young family. He assembles a crew and meets a new life form that helps him hunt the berserker down. It ended well, with vengeance for all who deserved to get it in the end. ( )
