23 Ungluers have Faved this Work

Hello - Bonjour,

The sample chapter of the Radio Franglais Vaudio Book is here at last! I hope you enjoy it. I would love to have your comments.

Sharing Radio Franglais with Others through Unglue.it from Nancy Boulicault on Vimeo.

Why unglue Radio Franglais ?   Pourquoi pas !?!

The Campaign will be fun and educational just like the book. And of course, like Radio Franglais, it will be just a little out of the ordinary.

For example, the Campaign has been built around the theme of the 'new sharing'. As you can see from the license I've chosen for Radio Franglais, I have a lot  to learn on that subject!  Over the next weeks, I'll be on a quest to convince myself to offer a less restrictive license for an unglued Radio Franglais. Come with me through posts on Storify to discover more about creative commons and the new Peer 2 Peer (l'économie contributive) world that is being born as we speak.  And please comment with your own insights on the topic - I could use the help.

I'm also cooking up premiums for ungluers that I hope will be as unique as the One Plot - Two Languages concept behind Radio Franglais. These may include anything from dual language audio files from the book to bilingual creative writing workshops -  so stay with me!

Then, of course, there are the benefits that unglueing Radio Franglais will bring to teachers and learners of both English and French in traditional learning settings or in meet-up groups or even in virtual learning communities. Radio Franglais was written first as a compelling story, but was designed also to develop natural reading in both the target language and the native language. What better gift to give than a tool to become a skilled reader in two languages ?

Together we can also share in creating another extraordinary gift: once the Campaign has reached 75% of its goal then 25% of all further proceeds towards the final goal will go to the Haitian Film School - Ciné Institute. In the free bilingual writing workshops that I've delivered to heritage French speakers from Haiti and Africa through the French American Cultural Exchange ( FACE), I've seen first-hand how powerful the creative process can be in overcoming all kinds of barriers.

After the final goal is passed, then 50% of further proceeds will also go to a good cause in the Haitian Community. I'll be announcing the name of the recipient organization as the Campaign gets close to its goal. Please feel free to make a case for a not-for-profit organization which you think the Campaign should consider supporting. I would be delighted to read your comments!

So, Let's Share Radio Franglais with Others !

As the film says, "You'll like it. And your friends will like you too."  Don't forget to tell them how well you share with others !

Hello wonderful supporters,
I'm sad that Radio Franglais is still 'stuck'!! But I'm delighted to have had a chance to work for such a worthy cause. I'ld like to offer a hard copy of Radio Franglais to each of you fantastic supporters. If you like, you could make a donation to Haiti as a thank you.

If you would like a copy then please contact me at bestfrenchenglishbooks@ gmail.com and I'l send you off your very own Radio Franglais for yourself or a school or library of your choice.
Thanks again - this is au revoir and not goodbye!

I upped my pledge for I think the third time recently...who else is going to join me in doing the same?

A unique Radio Franglais opportunity: 4 night/5 day writers' workshop at a charming cottage on inspiring Nantucket Island. This is a special premium suitable for a group of up to 4 family members, friends, or members of a writers' group. Authors Denise Neuhaus and Nancy Boulicault will tailor the workshop around the needs of the group. Family members might like to workshop a memoir or family history project. Friends might like to write about a special experience they shared. Members of a writers' group could benefit from improving their critical skills while also advancing their individual works for publication.
The workshop dates are May 30 to June 3, 2013. And the premium amount is $3000 which includes accommodation.
Those interested in the workshop can contact unglue.it and/or Nancy (bestfrenchenglishbooks@gmail.com) for further information.

Thanks Amanda, will check those out pronto. Yes, Nantucket is dreamy in June. Perfect place to write, stroll the beach and ride the bike trails.
Thanks again,
Nancy

Nantucket in June! Lovely. I'd suggest checking out both Smashwords and BiblioCrunch websites for ways to reach out to writers who might want to attend a workshop. Many American libraries are also supporting self-publishing, and searching recent Publishers Weekly Library Journal articles might be a good source for those.

An Easter miracle has happened! My audio book files reappeared or were 'resurrected' from my computer!!! Problem now is the that the actress who so kindly made them may not be available for retakes. Working on that now.

I would also like your advice again! I have the opportunity to offer an amazing premium of a writing workshop on Nantucket. Author and teacher Denise Neuhaus has offered to co-lead the workshop with me. The workshop would take place in the first week of June. If we got a group of 6 people (a writers' group?) then we could tailor the workshop to the group. Would anybody know how to get the word out to writers' groups?
Another audience for this workshop could be a family (multi-generational) who would like to tell a family story or create a memoir.

Any help would be appreciated - thanks so much.

Last thing - any thoughts on the Goodreads take over by Amazon? What does this mean for free ebooks, I wonder?

Thanks so much for thoughts!

Thank you MackenzieMorrison for supporting Radio Franglais' ungluing! You are all keeping me going as I redo audio files that Mountain Lion ate!
(Feb. 23, 2013, 7:52 a.m.)
Salut! Sorry for the silence. Struggling with an upgrade from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion on my mac. Hoping to resolve some problems with Final Cut Pro which appears to have lost the sound files to the audio book. Not good. But fingers crossed I'll be able to recover them. If not, will find another solution.

Thanks for patience and for your support - once again!

Thank you new ungluers! So happy to have you on board. I'm working on the audio file premium which is next up! Fun!
(Feb. 5, 2013, 2:56 a.m.)
Thanks Deme! Deme is an amazing actress and budding film producer. What she doesn't know about good stories -isn't worth knowing. It's an honor to have her as an ugluer.

Hi Ashley,
Thanks so much for your thoughts - I really appreciate it. I have been wondering whether I should put the audio files up for $1.00. I just don't know if I'll be able to find the number of people that I would need to make that work. Thanks again - if you have any further thoughts please don't hesitate!

For me, as a donor, lower-priced premiums are usually the most appealing to me, and are often the difference between me making a tiny "show of support" donation versus a small-but-still-larger one. For example, I often make $1 donations on another crowdfunding website, but if there's a small premium available for $5, even if it's just a sticker or a thank-you postcard or a link from the artist's website, I'll gladly pay the $5. It's the Barack Obama campaign fundraising strategy of crowdfunding.

I'm over the moon that I'll soon be announcing an audio version of Radio Franglais as a premium. But I'm pretty hopeless at figuring out how these premiums should be priced. I would love to price it low and have a large number of people pledge a little bit of money. Do you think this would work? Are there any networks out there that I could offer this premium through in order to get a larger response for a lower pledge?

Thanks for any help / thoughts you or your networks can provide.
(Jan. 29, 2013, 7:05 a.m.)
Just pledged for Love Like Gumbo. It is fun to share!

(Jan. 29, 2013, 6:37 a.m.)
Hello Supporters,

I've got a new Storify up - be very grateful if you could share with your networks.
http://storify.com/Nancybou/radio-franglais-on-unglueit-a-new-premium

In the story, I've announced that my Bilingual Creative Writing Workshop presentation will now be a new premium. I've included screenshots from the presentation which give an idea of the richness of material on which it based. All existing pledgers will automatically receive the premium as a thank you for being so wonderful.

The presentation is tried and tested in schools, clubs, summer camps - all the many different places I've been lucky enough to offer Bilingual Creative Writing Workshops in North America and Europe.

I hope you or a teacher, librarian or group facilitator you are connected with will find it as exciting as I do.

Thanks!

Hi Alexandre,
Thank you for your comments and your patience. I would be delighted to have the three sample chapters of Radio Franglais posted on LingQ. They are accessible at the bottom of the Radio Franglais Campaign page. If you have any trouble please let me know and I'll figure out some way to make them available to you.

I will be changing my license. Going to the one that Cory Doctorow and others use, i.e NC - for now....

Thanks,
Nancy

Oh and Alexandre - thanks for your thoughtful suggestion. I'll get back to you about it as soon as I can.

Dear Ungluers,
I've posted the second Storify of the Campaign at this link.
http://storify.com/Nancybou/a-sad-coincidence
It's not the Storify I expected to write but instead a story of a sad coincidence, many of you may be aware of.
Storify is not behaving itself very well today so I hope you don't have any problems.
As always would love to hear from you.
Nancy
(Jan. 16, 2013, 8:19 a.m.)
Thank you to all all the Ungluers for early support. I'll be posting another Storify to respond and update. Stay tuned and thanks again!
(Jan. 15, 2013, 5:22 p.m.)
I will contribute $10 for the current license. I will contribute $50 for both thumbs up (attribution-only) license. I think it would have a lot more potential for using the book in multiple services (e.g. LingQ, flashcards, iPad ebook, mashups, etc) if you let them make the money around it and/or transform it. You, obviously, get the reputation only, but that could be viable too. In fact, if you want/agree to release a sample chapter with attribution to LingQ, I currently have an account that lets me do it (and I am studying French...). And I think it could be great advertisement for Unglue. It as well.

Welcome to the newest ungluer - AmandaM. Thanks for the support.

Thank you to TCCPhreak for making the very first pledge. I'll be delighted to share 3 copies of Radio Franglais with this ungluer 'par excellence'.
