The work of Carlos de Sigüenza y Góngora (1645-1700) represents one of the most important intellectual projects of early Hispanic modernity. His letters fully manifest the desire of the Creoles to achieve the place they felt they deserved in the social structure of their time. This book offers a novel and original approach to the production of the last Sigüenza. Based on his last works, it shows how the New Spain scholar conceived an integral and transatlantic project in which, through the use of different knowledge, he reflects his ability to develop an American expression and knowledge that would not detract from those produced in Europe. The image that emerges is that of a creole subject capable of safeguarding and ordering his own culture, and thereby inserting his voice in the debate on the best way to organise and govern New Spain.
