"Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta Ecosystem: reflections from science and technology" explores the importance of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta (SNSM) as a strategic ecosystem for environmental sustainability and its impact on local communities in two sections. The first section highlights the relevance of the ecosystem at a global level and within its environment while recognizing social conflicts and land use. It also emphasizes the contributions of research and technology to bridging gaps in the communities that inhabit it. The second section focuses on two case studies. The initial study examines the validation of assisted coffee harvesting in the SNSM and how the adoption of technologies, such as selective felling, can improve coffee production, reduce costs, and adapt to climate change. The second case study focuses on the implementation of a hybrid solar-wind renewable system and a drinking water treatment plant in the academic community of the La Revuelta District Educational Institution in Guachaca, Santa Marta. This project aimed to provide energy and drinking water to a rural community by promoting the use of renewable energy, closing technological gaps in the region.
