As part of a research project entitled “Vacant Positions: The Replacement of Professors of ‘Jewish Race’ in Italian Universities Following the 1938 Legislative Measures”, which originates from an initial study focused on the University of Padua, the present volume examines the cases of the replacement of six professors of “Jewish race” who were expelled from the economic faculties of the Universities of Bari, Trieste, and Venice. The reconstruction of the formal replacement procedures—based on primary archival sources, almost all unpublished—develops alongside a description of the relationships between the displaced professors and their replacements within academic, professional, and personal networks, also based on archival sources and private correspondence, often contemporary and unpublished.
