Pace Diritto Umano
0 Ungluers have Faved this Work
We live in an era of wars, violations of individual and collective rights, nuclear risk, and increasing military spending. Every day, the media report new threats to human life and global stability. In times like ours, it is no longer enough to preach peace as a noble ideal or an indeterminate political goal. It is urgent to assert it as a human right. With this conviction, Etica Sgr promoted the research project Peace as a Fundamental Right of the Person and of Peoples, carried out by the University Centre for Human Rights “Antonio Papisca” and the UNESCO Chair on Human Rights, Democracy, and Peace at the University of Padua. The project involved both academia and civil society in an investigation of the legal, political, cultural, and economic dimensions of the right to peace. In addition to reflections and multidisciplinary analyses arising from the research, this volume collects recommendations addressed to social actors, institutions, educational agencies, and local authorities, as well as to the European Union and the Italian Government and Parliament, alongside a broad anthology of legal and political acts. The volume is completed by a proposal for a “Treaty on the Right to Peace.” It is time to make explicit the triple nexus connecting life (human and biosphere), rights, and peace. The human right to peace is both a reality and a strategy that challenges governments and all of us.
