This collaborative book explores the rich and complex history of Latin American student movements over more than a century. Through seventeen chapters organized into six thematic sections, it analyzes how students have moved from the academic sphere to political action in the streets, transforming social conflicts and challenging nation-building projects. From the student mobilizations at the University of Michoacán (Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo) in Morelia during the early stages of the Mexican Revolution and the University Reform movement in Cuba against the Machado dictatorship, to the 1968 protests in Mexico, the Maoist radicalization in Peru and Colombia (Patria Roja and Guardias Rojos), and cases of repression such as the Corpus Christi Massacre (known as the Halconazo) and the disappearance of the 43 students from the Ayotzinapa Rural Teachers' College, the work examines left-wing and right-wing, anti-imperialist and anti-communist experiences. The authors explore repertoires of struggle, the role of the press and printed materials, ideological activism, state violence, and cultural expressions such as graffiti. An essential read to understand how young people have driven historical changes and continue to shape the political and social present of Latin America.
