Lesediagnostik bildet den Ausgangspunkt für schulische Leseförderung und Interventionsstudien der Leseforschung. Da die Verarbeitung der deutschen Schriftsprache jedoch vielfältige Anforderungen an Lesenlernende stellt, ist die Ermittlung von individuellen Leseständen eine Herausforderung für Lehrende und Forschende. In dem vorliegenden Buch wird vor diesem Hintergrund ein digitales Lesediagnoseverfahren entwickelt, das in der Lage ist, individuelle Unterschiede in der Verarbeitung der deutschen Schriftsprache bei Lesenlernenden sichtbar zu machen. Zunächst wird hierzu ein hierarchisches Modell des Wortlesens hergeleitet, das aufzeigt, welche Aspekte des Systems der Schriftsprache für die Diagnostik der hierarchieniedrigsten Lesefertigkeiten zu berücksichtigen sind. Das Modell dient dann als Grundlage für die Entwicklung von systematischen Leseitems, die in einer digitalen Browseranwendung eingesetzt werden. Berichtet werden abschließend erste Ergebnisse einer Pilotierung des Verfahrens.
