It is certainly not possible to explore a library of thousands of volumes in full depth. Nevertheless, individual aspects can be presented that together serve to sketch the character of the Vorau Abbey Library in broad strokes. The Libri Voravienses (Books of Vorau) are conceived as an approach to a great and historically significant library. This volume brings together contributions from 23 specialists from a range of disciplines and with diverse methodological approaches. Their studies address the history and library of Vorau Abbey, individual sections of the collection, as well as manuscripts and printed books. The selection offered here is a manifold and winding bouquet of books — a philokalia.
