How equal is access to social participation across Styria? The study presented in this atlas examines for the first time the extent to which objective opportunities for participation exist across the 286 municipalities of Styria, and which local factors shape them. Drawing on extensive secondary data from the fields of economy, education, infrastructure, and social life, the study reveals how strongly regional disparities affect the capabilities of Styria's population. Beyond the analysis of individual participation factors, selected aspects were used to cluster municipalities — yielding a differentiation ranging from well-connected participation centres to structurally disadvantaged rural areas with limited access to mobility, local supply, and education. The study also demonstrates quantitatively the significance of local associations and cultural institutions as social anchor points, particularly in rural communities. The book contributes to the understanding of regional inequalities and offers impulses for policy, regional development, and social justice.
