This volume contains the contributions from the XXXIX Forum Junge Romanistik 'Critical Perspectives in Romance Philology', which took place from March 20 to 22, 2024, at the University of Hamburg. Philological studies have historically played an important role in the research of Romance languages, cultures, and literatures. However, in these times of sociocultural change and increased sensitivity toward injustice and diversity, it is essential to direct critical perspectives toward our discipline. Romance philology can and must serve as a tool to question existing assumptions, uncover hidden narratives, and contribute to a more inclusive representation of the cultural sphere being investigated. In this sense, Romance philology and its students assume a social responsibility regarding justice and democratic education on a global level.
