The knowledge economy has embraced a hyperconnected lifestyle driven by technological trends. Within the 5.0 industrial revolution framework, the Internet of Things (IoT) plays a crucial role in developing smart cities by enabling data transfer among various devices. However, this increased connectivity elevates the risk of cyberattacks on heterogeneous IoT devices and demands rapid processing of the astronomical amounts of data used by smart cities. Edge Computing has emerged as a key approach for enabling local data processing near data sources, reducing reliance on centralized servers. Among the applications of edge computing are manufacturing in smart factories to improve production quality, enhancing data security in ad hoc networks, and enabling efficient machine learning execution on edge devices. Therefore, the six chapters of this book synthesize recent scientific advances in Edge Computing and its applications, covering topics such as security, distributed systems, intelligent algorithms, IA, etc. This book aims to serve as an updated, handy reference for university professors, graduate students, and laboratory researchers, as well as for physicists, mathematicians, and engineers interested in studying edge computing.
