In the social and behavioral sciences, there has historically been a tendency to prioritize quantitative measurement and generalization in statistical terms. However, conventional methods are usually inadequate to understand the complexity of current social phenomena, which are full of symbolism, cultural contradictions and personal motivations. The decontextualization of human experience is the main problem: by limiting ourselves to metric variables, we lose sight of the meaning that the social actors themselves have in their behavior. This results in important gaps for understanding crucial dynamics (for example, social exclusion, emerging identities, cultural changes and how communities react to the crisis), which reduces the effectiveness of theoretical and social interventions that are based solely on numerical diagnoses. Qualitative research is based on the essential idea that human phenomena are neither measurable nor comprehensible independently of the subjective experience of those who experience them. In the current circumstances, which are distinguished by hyperconnectivity, cultural variety and rapid social changes, this perspective provides analytical tools to deepen the background of statistical data and understand how and why people's behaviors happen.
