Ria is lonely living in N.Y. City. She misses her Caribbean home. Most of all, she misses the animals she left behind. But one fall morning, Ria's neighbor takes her on a surprise visit to a great cathedral -- it's the Feast of Saint Francis, when people bring their pets to church to be blessed. And there will be a procession of animals, too: camels, snakes, a falcon, even an elephant! Ria is excited, until she realizes she's the only one at the festival who doesn't have a pet. Without an animal of her own, how can she be part of the blessing? Weller's story is based on a real-life happening that takes place every year in N.Y. on the first Sunday in October. Here is a warmly illustrated picture book about a little girl who discovers that all the world can be her home.
