2 Ungluers have Faved this Work
In 1947-48 the workers on the Dakar-Niger railway staged a strike. In this vivid, timeless novel, Sembene Ousmane envinces the color, passion, and tragedy of those formative years in the history of West Africa.

Sembene was one of Africa's most vibrant filmmakers; his last film, made when he was in his 80s, told of a woman in Burkina Faso who revolted against female circumcision. He turned to film after writing novels (in French) and finding too few places for Africans to obtain books or learn to read.
This is an autobiographical account of Francophone Africa after African's fought against Hitler but remained colonial subjects.
