This book constitutes my doctoral thesis in economics at the University ofHohenheim. But more than a title, it is the final outcome of a research journeyof seven years, which has taken me from Germany to Spain, Peru, Brazil,Netherlands, England and Turkey, collecting information and seeking adviceon the relations between economic development and human development.This research endeavour aims to contribute to the creation of bridges betweenstructural change and human development research and examine the variety ofmethods that allow us to explore and research the complex relations betweensocial networks, economic diversity and human development. It is highly scepticalof two-dimensional categorizations, such as black-and-white thinking, whichsimplify a multidimensional and complex world.
