This book features previously unpublished innovative essays on early Chinese chronology, astronomy, and historiography by the late David S. Nivison (1923-2014). Nivison was instrumental in developing early China Studies in the United States and is well-known for revising the date of the Zhou conquest of Shang and for his theory that Western Zhou kings employed two calendars.
