The main purpose of the Cataloging and Critical Study of the works by Manuel Faria housed at the General Library of the University of Coimbra (BGUC) is to display the organisation, the inventory, the cataloging and the study of the aforementioned collection mentioned, which comprises an invaluable asset for future studies about Portuguese Music. Given the importance, size and value of the oeuvre offered to the University of Coimbra by the priest and composer Manuel Faria (1916-1983), an important figure in the context of 20th-century Portuguese music, this publication aspires to contribute towards a greater dissemination of his work. This study also enables a comparative analysis with this composer's other existing catalogues, at the same time making it possible to locate and examine the background of each particular work, providing easier and faster access to investigating Manuel Faria's oeuvre.
