Deepening Divides

Deepening Divides

0 Ungluers have Faved this Work
The recent refugee crisis in Europe revealed how the control of borders at whatever cost in terms of human lives was linked to the making of racial and ethnic boundaries which served to justify policies. The history of the overlapping of borders and boundaries is, however, not always tragic. The interactions between borders and boundaries question the distinction between the two as clearly separate domains - the former supposedly pertaining to the state, sovereignty, citizenship, and law, and the latter to society, culture, identity, and inequality. The present volume results from a collective endeavor to challenge this division of intellectual labor, and bridge the two domains, by exploring the relationships between borders and boundaries in diverse national contexts and from various distinct perspectives.
