The United States in the Indo-Pacific

0 Ungluers have Faved this Work
This book examines the political, economic and security legacy former US president Barack Obama leaves in the Asia Pacific, following two terms in office between 2009 and 2017. The aim is to advance our understanding of Obama’s style, influence and impact during that time by interrogating the nature and contours of US engagement throughout the region. Each chapter works together to address the following key questions: What were Obama’s aims for US engagement across the Asia Pacific throughout his two terms in office? Did those aims evolve over time or remain relatively stable? How were Obama and his policies greeted throughout the region and how successful was he in his ambitions? Ultimately, what is the nature and scale of the legacy Obama leaves behind in the Asia Pacific? Finally, how durable does Obama’s Asia Pacific legacy appear in the first 12 months after leaving office? In what ways is Donald Trump building upon and complementing that legacy, or working to overturn it?
