Trotz ihrer gesamtwirtschaftlichen Bedeutung hat die kommunale Investitionstätigkeit nur ein geringes Interesse in der Finanzwissen- schaft gefunden. So ist bis heute weitgehend unbekannt, welche Motive eine Gemeinde veranlassen, Investitionsvorhaben in Angriff zu nehmen. Die Studie kommt an Hand empirischer Untersuchungen zu dem Ergebnis, dass die ökonomische Analyse kommunaler Investitionen nicht nur interessante finanzwissenschaftliche Aspekte eröffnet, sondern auch manche tradierte Vorstellung in Frage stellt.
