L’obra completa de Rossend Arús i Arderiu (1845-1891), dramaturg popular, republicà, catalanista, lliurepensador i maçó, integra més de cinquanta peces dramàtiques i constitueix la col·lecció més extensa de teatre vuitcentista a l’abast del lector actual. De les seves peces, que tenen una dimensió política, sobresurten els drames realistes contemporanis i en prosa, en què l’autor va ser pioner. Aquest segon volum, amb les peces escrites entre el 1874 i el 1877, segueix el títol Teatre complet I (1865-1873), que incloïa un estudi aprofundit de Magí Sunyer, professor titular del Departament de Filologia Catalana de la Universitat Rovira i Virgili.
