The sustainability condition of sufficiency expresses that the available environmental resources can only be managed if the consumption of these resources is not only reduced relative to economic activity, but in absolute terms. This volume examines the question of how the law can be used to achieve an absolute reduction in consumption and how the legal framework could be adapted to achieve a sufficiency-oriented economic order. The scientific foundations of the sufficiency requirement as well as conceptual, instrumental and constitutional aspects of its legal implementation are discussed.
