In today's Norway, there are more than 300,000 people who have had cancer, or are living with cancer. Knowledge about the social and personal aspects of surviving cancer is still limited, something this book takes up in a broad sense. Do all forms of cancer, side effects of the treatment or late effects evoke the same amount of empathy? Who sets the agenda for how illness in general, and cancer in particular, is addressed publicly? And how can cancer survivors be better understood and met on their own terms?
In this anthology, researchers with different professional backgrounds examine how it is experienced to get cancer, and how these experiences are linked to society's ideas about cancer and cancer survival.
