The first volume of the digital open access series examines how the Christiana Albertina (Kiel University) as an institution, with its professors and student body, positioned itself in relation to social and political phenomena of the 20th century, e.g. the Nazi past and war captivity, terrorism, the 1968 movement and the treatment of women. Four historical studies illustrate in exemplary fashion how strong the interactions between university and society have been at all times.
