The university complex at Via Mezzocannone 8 has, over the centuries, been the center of the Neapolitan scientific community and a symbol of the city's culture. However, the places and people who made its history are known only to experts and some local event enthusiasts. This volume, the first in a series, covers the period from the second half of the eighteenth century to the early twentieth century. It details the events of the Collegio Massimo dei Gesuiti, particularly the Cortile delle Statue, and highlights the contributions of teachers such as Pasquale Del Pezzo, Francesco De Sanctis, Paolo Panceri, Giosuè Sangiovanni, and Arcangelo and Eugenio Scacchi to the enrichment of the university's structures, including its libraries, museums, and laboratories.
