The book approaches obesity from various perspectives, beginning with a global analysis in Chapter I on socioeconomic and cultural factors, and the influence of globalization on eating habits. The specific situation in Ecuador is examined in Chapter II, which highlights the high prevalence of obesity in adults and its relationship with the consumption of processed foods. The following chapters focus on medical, biochemical and nutritional aspects of obesity, as well as dietary and physical activity interventions. The importance of psychological intervention is emphasized and the influence of social networks and marketing on eating habits is discussed. Musculoskeletal complications are also discussed and the crucial role of hormonal imbalances in obesity and their metabolic implications are detailed. The book provides a comprehensive view of obesity and suggests multidisciplinary approaches to its prevention and control.
