Abstract in Deutsch Vier Fotoethnografien erzählen von Orten erhöhter Verdichtung und Transformation in Zürich. Im Foto- und Lesebuch Blicke auf das Dazwischen. Foto-Ethnografien zu Transformationen in Zürich zeigt die Kulturwissenschaftlerin und Fotografin Eva Lüthi vier Orte die sie im Zeitraum von 2009-2017 fotografierend beobachtet und in der vertieften Auseinandersetzung zu einer anschaulichen Bild- und Stadtforschung verknüpft hat. Über den visuellen Zugang zu den Menschen, Lebewesen, Dingen und Orten in ihren sozialen Verflechtungen wird das ständige Rück-, Um- und Neubauen der Stadt und des städtischen Alltags (nach-)erlebbar gemacht. Der Wandel einer Siedlung bis hin zu ihrem Ersatzneubau in Schwamendingen, die MFO-Hausverschiebung in Oerlikon, der Blick auf eine Shopping Mall in Altstetten sowie die Sicht auf die globalisierte Arbeitsstätte stadtauswärts Richtung Flughafen werden fotografisch festgehalten. Dabei fokussiert Eva Lüthi auf die Zwischenstadien, Übergänge, das Dazwischen oder das mehrschichtige Aufeinanderprallen unterschiedlich wahrgenommener Situationen. Diese fotografisch gerahmten Blicke werden für die Analyse von Stadt und Fotografie als methodischer Zugang gleichermassen produktiv gemacht. Die fotografierende Stadtforscherin offeriert der Betrachterin, dem Betrachter verschiedene Deutungshilfen und Zugänge: Einerseits beschreibt Lüthi sorgfältig, wie die Bilder entstanden, dargestellt und verwendet werden und bettet sie andererseits in den städtischen Kontext ein. Zwischen Sprachbild und Fotografie oszillierend führt sie die Betrachter*innen und Leser*innen an die Fotoethnografien heran und regt in äusserst innovativer Weise an, eigene Deutungswege zu städtischer Transformations- und Verdichtungsprozesse zu erkunden. Das Buch sensibilisiert in seiner Vielstimmigkeit für Unschärfen und Mehrdeutigkeiten in urbanen Lebenszusammenhängen. Das Foto- und Lesebuch lädt zum Sehen und Gehen ein. Der Blick auf Zwischenräume in Stadt und Bild schält sorgfältig soziale Dynamiken heraus. Fachkundig und präzis wird aufgeführt, wie sich der Alltag der verschiedenen Menschen an den Transformationsorten Zürichs zeigt. Photo-ethnographies on transformations in Zurich Four photo-ethnographies on the outskirts of Zurich tell of places of increased densification and transformation. The cultural scientist and photographer Eva Lüthi closely observed these places with her camera over the course of the years 2009 to 2017 and linked them conceptually. Through the visual access to people, living beings, things and places in their social interconnections, the constant deconstruction, reconstruction and rebuilding of everyday urban life and the late-modern city is made tangible. The focus is on the intermediate stages, the in-between or the multi-layered situations. These are used for the analysis of the city and photography. As interpretive aids for the photo-ethnographies, it is described praxeologically how they were created, presented, and used. They are also embedded in the urban context of Zurich and of the urban research. Language, metaphors, and photography are used innovatively, resulting in a multi-layered approach to the photo-ethnographies. This new approach goes beyond words and into the current professional discussion with ethnographic research and representation and the non-linguistic within urban research. The pictures and text invite the readers and viewers to see and walk in a performative way. It also offers a current analysis of everyday culture and urban research. It unlocks a new perspective on the description of culture and expands ethnographic narration to include the sensual experience.
