Fürstinnen in Schleswig-Holstein

Fürstinnen in Schleswig-Holstein

For a long time, the princesses of Schleswig-Holstein were completely overshadowed by their male representatives. It is only recently that the princely wives, mothers and daughters have come increasingly into the focus of research in the wake of a generally increased focus on women's and gender history and a new cultural history. This volume brings together for the first time a chronologically and thematically broad scholarly approach to the princesses of Schleswig-Holstein in the Middle Ages and early modern period. 17 papers offer the latest findings on these consistently exciting women's fates and the respective living conditions between regional, art, architecture and music history, thus creating a solid new basis for further research. The contributions emerged from a conference organised in January 2022 by the Kiel Department of Regional History in cooperation with the Schleswig-Holstein State Museums Foundation Schloss Gottorf. They will be published in the new series Regionalgeschichte heute.
