The solution does not lie in a single approach, but in combining different measures and creating new forms of housing. One such solution is participatory housing, where residents work together with other households and are involved in the preparation and operation of the housing. Working together as neighbours and sharing certain aspects of housing can bring economic, social and environmental benefits. But participatory housing is not just about neighbours working together. By coordinating with other households, residents become one of the key actors in the construction and management of housing. The aim of this handbook is to support interested households in the implementation of a participatory housing project in co-operation with other households.
