The objective of this study is the analysis of the phenomenon of the shadow economy, its size and structural changes, in terms of long-term determinants and mechanisms of its formation. For this purpose, original mathematical models of unregistered work and hidden production were constructed using the tools of game theory. These models were analyzed in detail in terms of the theoretical mathematical and economic properties. In addition, the exemplary empirical studies and scenario analysis were conducted on the basis of statistical data on the Polish economy. Recommendations for economic and social policy were also pointed out and the effectiveness of its instruments influencing the size of the shadow economy was examined. The monograph is intended mainly for specialists, researchers of the shadow economy, economic practitioners, students of economic studies and other people interested in economic policy. The author is an assistant professor at the Department of Econometrics, University of Lodz. The book is a summary of her several-year research on the shadow economy. The doctoral dissertation on the basis of which this monograph was created has been honored in several competitions for the best doctoral theses in Poland. The publication was financed from funds for research for young scientists (project number: B1711200001766.02).
