As the survey carried out as part of this research shows, Classical antiquity is widely referenced in the works of visual artists. This revival of Antiquity is not only European, — as a long cultural tradition might suggest — it also includes a large number of American and Far Eastern artists. We can affirm without doubt that nowadays, Classical Antiquity provides a rich and stimulating referential universe from which artists can draw freely. In this book, we will examine both the artistic works produced over the last forty years, their creators and their audiences.
