Processes of variation and change in the Spanish of Seville and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria focuses its attention on the Andalusian and Canarian varieties, known for their innovative tendency within current Spanish. In this sense, various linguistic phenomena of speakers belonging to two large urban communities (Seville and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria) are addressed with the purpose of continuing to advance in the tracing of sociolinguistic patterns that help describe both Spanish-speaking modalities. The authors participating in this publication develop their research within the "Project for the sociolinguistic study of Spanish in Spain and America" (PRESEEA) from their respective research groups belonging to the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria ("Sociolinguistics, acoustic phonetics and linguistics applied to teaching") and to the University of Seville ("Andalusian sociolinguistics: sociolinguistic study of the speech of Seville", HUM-141). Nine works are included that share similar methodological approaches and that address themes that are very present within current sociolinguistics (phonetics, grammatical, lexical and pragmatic).
