In China, Wuhan, Hubei, at the end of December 2019, a new respiratory pathology called COVID-19 was introduced. This disease is caused by a new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). The rapid spread of this disease led the World Health Organization (WHO), on March 11, 2020, to declare it a pandemic (1). In Ecuador, the first case occurred on February 29, 2020, in a 71-year-old female patient who traveled from Madrid on February 14, 2020. Since then, the number of cases has increased exponentially, with more than one million confirmed cases and 35,908 deaths as of October 25, 2022 (2).
