The origins of the Ethnographic Collection at the University of Göttingen date back to the Age of Enlightenment. With over 19,000 objects, it is one of the most important teaching and research collections in the German-speaking world.
In this volume, 73 authors from 20 countries examine objects and highlight events from the past and present of this collection. From a variety of perspectives, they analyse the meanings of the artefacts and provide an introduction to the intentions, actions and worldviews of the people connected to them.
