Debatten über das Handeln der Polizei fokussieren oft Fragen nach der »Angemessenheit« von Gewaltanwendung und potenzieller Grenzüberschreitungen. Die Legitimität polizeilicher Gewalt ist dabei eng an eine affektive Neutralität der Handlung gebunden. Stephanie Schmidt setzt sich in ihrer Ethnografie mit diesen affektiven Komponenten der Gewaltarbeit auseinander. Sie analysiert performative Darstellungsweisen von Wut, die als Arbeitsgegenstand und -werkzeug Bedeutung im polizeilichen Alltag erhalten. Ausgehend vom Begriff der Ordnung ermöglicht ihr emotionstheoretisch geprägter Blick, Gewaltsamkeit als Körpertechnik und damit auch als Ausdrucksform polizeilicher Arbeit zu begreifen.
