Few issues in Norwegian politics are more controversial than the privatization of social services. While some argue that standards of quality increase with a combination of public and private services, others argue that privatization leads to profiteering at the expense of service quality and employment conditions. Debate on this topic has been somewhat irreconcilable. Public or Private Social Services? Political Pressures and Professional Insights takes the concepts of ‘public’ and ‘private’ and utilizes them through the collection of chapters to address different aspects of social welfare policy. An important message of the book is that the choice between public and private is much more nuanced than the political debate would lead us to believe.
